Looking down, he sees that the inhaler has a label "Administer as needed.".He wants to go to the Barrens and tell everyone everything, but he's also overwhelmed.At this, Eddie grabs his medicine and runs.He wants Eddie to run down to the Barrens and tell his friends everything. Keene gives him is this: he saw that Eddie has made friends, and he bets that Eddie's mom doesn't approve of them. He wonders, now that he's an adult, why Mr.He says that Eddie is caught in the middle.And that his mother is determined that he's ill. Sucking frantically on the inhaler, he apologizes to Mr.He reaches across the table, knocking his ice-cream soda onto the floor. Eddie feels the frantic need to use his inhaler.But when someone is "getting stiff and tight" the muscles around the lungs can press against them, causing air to be compressed. He says that a lung is a like a balloon: in a healthy lung, it can expand to full capacity. He starts explaining: Eddie's troubles, he says, come from being all stiff and anxious.He asks Eddie if he knows what a placebo is. Keene says, "This has gone on long enough." Eddie's mind starts whirring: is he going to tell him he has cancer? Accuse him of shoplifting? Tell him asthma medicine causes cancer? Keene also offers him a free ice-cream soda, which he accepts. He wanted to talk to him about something.This was common: he'd pick up medicine, browse the comics, and on the way he'd buy some candy and soda. The balloons explode, and Eddie begins to speak. ![]() They also see a balloon, tied to the microfilm reader, that says ASTHMA MEDICINE GIVES YOU CANCER, with some grinning skulls. ![]() But suddenly, his inhaler rolls across the table.She agrees, and Eddie gets ready to talk.Everyone wants to hear about how Eddie broke his arm, and Eddie agrees to tell, on the condition that his story is followed up with Beverly talking about Patrick.That was also the last day Eddie saw Patrick. He knows this because Patrick had been with Henry when Henry broke his arm.That was the day that all of Henry Bowers' friends died.
